Being sick sucks , totally. When we are sick , our appetite tends to go down and we often don’t feel like eating anything , let alone desire to continue counting macros vanishes. It sounds surprising But because our body is working harder than normal to help fight infection, we need to maintain our energy levels by eating more calories than usual.
Here are few things you can do to help to fight the sickness. Down below attached Precision Nutrition’s Info graphic.
STAY HYDRATED
When we are ill, we often forget to drink because we are too busy sleeping or too weak to get out of bed. If you are suffering from a fever, you may well be losing water through an increased amount of sweating, so it is important to drink slightly more than usual.
- Gatorade
- Soups made from Broths
- Add electrolyte tablets in your water ( Nuun Tablet or Ultima Electrolyte Powder)
REST
- Sleep, sleep and more sleep is key to recovery when ill.
- Please dont try to be Wonder Women or Superman and workout when you are sick. This will delay recovery and makes you more susceptible to injury due to lack of strength and focus. Last thing you want is to injure yourself on top of being sick.
EAT ENOUGH PROTEIN & CARBS

Eating enough protein will boost your energy levels too. Your body needs extra energy to increase the production of white blood cells needed to fight off infection. To ensure you are getting enough protein, try to include an extra portion of meat, fish, beans or lentils in your meals.
When you are ill, it is important to increase this amount of fruits and veggies as much as possible to help boost your immune system.
EAT LITTLE AND OFTEN
Eating is often the last thing we feel like doing when we are ill. Rather than sticking to meal times, listen to your body and eat when your body tells you.
